OES means= Old English Sheepdog or Bobtail ( bobtail was because they used to copy the tails) The breed is from the 1900ths and where breed ´et in England for the purpose of hurdling and guarding sheep and cattle. Hurdling lies deep within the breed, even though they now are great family dogs the instinct for hurdling lies still within the breed.
OES is a very loving, reliable and trusting breed. It will only feel totally in sync when its hole family is gathered around it.
OES can be very overwhelming for guests of the house. It loves children, but they especially find the breed overwhelming.
For the upbringing of a OES you need to act with a firm hand. But still with a firm hand the breed is use to getting it his way. As a youngster the OES is very active, but also good at activating them selfs. Therefor it is rare to have problem while leaving a youngster alone. The breed does not have any signs of nervousness and unprovoked aggressive.
The breeds standard is a small and square body, with overflowing coat, with a nice crispy texture. The colors are Grey, white-blue and most often with white socks. The coats volume and structure is more important than the length of the coat. The wool dismissive´s water and has an isolating effect.
Seen from the behind a OES has a rolling walk like a bear. When running it does so with easiness and good drive, when galopping it looks quite athletic.
Seen from above it has a pare shaped body. A slightly raising top line, And is a strong and persistent dog.
The head should be square like the body, with a well marked stop. The muzzle is square, strong and rounded in front. The nose is big and black with well opened nastrals. The eyes should be dark brown or wall eyed. Blue eyes is acceptable. Pigmented eye lits is preferred. The ears should be small and close fitted to the head.
Teeth: Big and regular teeth in a scissors bite.
Neck: quit long and graceful neck. The reason for the long neck is to watch the heard while they sleep.
Body: The body Is short with a deep front. The loin is wide and bows´s in to the raising top line. The back is muscular and volumed. The thigh is long, developed and angulated. The paws should be straight out from the body and not to eater side. A well set and carried tale should be low.
The size: Males at least 61cm and bitches at least 56cm. But the type and harmony is more important to the breed. |
